Annette Funicello's dancing partner was discovered on the streets of Fullerton California by Walt Disney at just 13 years of age. Funicello did not get an audition when she joined The Mickey Mouse Club cast in the first season and much at her Mickey Mouse Club colleagues' displeasure. Disney took the right choice and she soon became The Mickey Mouse Club's best performers, and she even had her own Adventures in Dairyland storyline. Funicello appeared alongside Frankie Avalon in Beach Party. This was the first of a string of films about beach parties that quickly became extremely well-known.
